The police are still investigating the motive for the attack, said Perak deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk A. Paramasivam.

The first victim was a 54-yearold businessman who was slashed on the head when the three suspects entered the entertainment outlet.

“As they fled from the scene, they slashed a 30-year-old man outside the centre,” SAC Paramasivam told reporters here.

Three policemen patrolling the area gave chase and cornered the suspects, resulting in a stand-off between them.

“The suspects lunged at the policemen with their parang, forcing the policemen to open fire,” said SAC Paramasivam.

“One suspect was shot in the thigh, while another was hit in the buttocks and legs.”

The two injured suspects are from Klang.

Regarding the traffic accident involving a Road Transport Department (JPJ) vehicle and nine other vehicles in Ayer Tawar on Jan 11, SAC Paramasivam advised the public not to make any speculation.

Police have so far detained four people, aged 18 to 41, for questioning.

“There were a lot of witnesses but not many are coming forward with information,” he said.

During the incident at a traffic light junction near a secondary school in Ayer Tawar, south of Ipoh, an angry mob reportedly overturned the JPJ vehicle and set it on fire.

The other vehicles involved in the pile-up were a oil palm fruit-laden lorry, a sand-laden lorry, two school buses, three cars, a four-wheel drive and a motorcycle. No casualties were reported.
