Steadier on buying interest

-

SHARE prices on Bursa Malaysia closed slightly higher, with buying interest seen in finance and telco stocks, dealers said.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended 1.93 points higher at 1,684.63, after hovering between 1,682.96 and 1,686.69 throughout the day.

However, market breadth was mixed with gainers and losers were each at 323, with 342 counters unchanged, 647 untraded and 26 others suspended.

Mercury Securities Head of Research Edmund Tham said investors were mostly on the sidelines amid lack of fresh catalyst to boost the market.

“For the moment, no momentum to push up the market, but judging from the volume transacted today, the market is doing quite well today,” he told Bernama.

Tham said it was difficult for the local bourse to breach the 1,700 level in the near term as there was lack of positive corporate and economy news to lead the market.

Total volume dwindled to 1.214 billion units worth RM1.299bil from 1.451 billion units valued at RM1.41bil recorded last Friday.

Among actives, Patimas Computers earned 1.5 sen to 15.5 sen and DBE Gurney added one sen to 9.5 sen. DSC Solutions fell 1.5 sen to 13 sen.

Heavyweights, Maybank rose three sen to RM9.03, CIMB improved one sen to RM7.67 but Sime Darby fell three sen to RM9.56. – Bernama
