BUKIT MERTAJAM: Former Seberang Prai Tengah district officer Roslan Yahaya, 51, (pic) claimed trial in the magistrate’s court here to a charge of using criminal force with intent to outrage the modesty of a woman.

He was charged with allegedly attempting to outrage the modesty of one Noramiza Azmee, 29, on April 26, 2010 at his office in Jalan Betek, Sungai Rambai.

Roslan was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or whipping, or both. Magistrate Chiang Kian Hong set bail at RM8,000 and set Feb 25 for the next date.

He was released on bail with the condition that he would not harass witnesses in the case.

One of the witnesses is Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mansor Othman’s aide Zainal Abidin Saad.

Roslan is represented by lawyer Anthony Samy, while DPP Amir Hamzah Othman is prosecuting.

It was reported that Roslan was detained together with Zainal Abidin and another person by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission ( MACC) on Jan 3 in Seberang Jaya.

They were held for allegedly trying to cover up a sexual harassment case by paying a woman, believed to be a clerk in his office, an amount of RM30,000.

The money was said to be an inducement for the woman to drop a sexual harassment charge.
