Praying for a mate
Match-making agency doing roaring business at Batu Caves
KUALA LUMPUR: Pachiyappan Ramasamy will not only fulfil his vows at the Batu Caves temple on Thaipusam.
He also wants to find a suitable bride for his son Dino Sharti, 23.
The 51-year-old businessman went to a booth at the Batu Caves compound, which was set up by match-making agency Tamil Matrimony.
“I’m looking for a young woman from a good family. It doesn’t matter if they are rich or poor. What is important is that she comes from a good family and the same caste as ours,” the father of two said.
Pachiyappan said parents played an important role in selecting a suitable life partner for their offspring.
“The marriage does not only unite the couple, but their families as well,” he added.
Dino, who accompanied his father, said he trusted his parents to make the right decisions for him.
Also at the booth was 44-year-old teacher Murugan Batumalai. He, however, was looking for a wife for his divorced younger brother.
He said his 38-year-old brother, who works as a technician, had been single for over a year now and was ready to settle down again.
“He has asked me to help him look for a nice woman from a good family,” he added.
Tamil Matrimony senior manager Seema Ganasarajan said the agency, which was set up in September 2010, had managed to attract more than 100,000 Indians.
“There are many people who are finding it hard to meet the right life partner. They might be shy.
“Our staff can help them search for a suitable candidate within our list of applicants and we will arrange a meeting between them,” said Seema.
Seema said clients could also meet their match online by signing up at the agency’s portal at tamil-matrimony.
Seema added that after keying in their details and preferences, the portal would shortlist a number of potential candidates for them and they could contact each other later.
