Steven is the new KLGCC boss

KUALA Lumpur Golf & Country Club recently appointed Steven A. Thielke as the new general manager.

A South African national, Thielke will highlight his first year as boss of KLGCC with two huge internatio­nal tournament­s at the 36-hole layout – the Maybank Malaysian Open in March and the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia in October.

In his most recent role, Thielke served as a general manager, Hotels & Golf Management at Citic Pacific Limited in Hong Kong, spearheadi­ng a 36-hole golf destinatio­n in Hainan, which was designed by Tom Weiskopf and known as The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula. That was since 2007.

The golf resort opened in early 2011 alongside two Starwood Hotels & Resorts properties. Since The Dunes opened, it picked up several internatio­nal accolades, including the ‘Best Golf Course in China’ by Robb Report Best of the Best Awards (2011).

Prior to his tenure with Citic Pacific Limited, Thielke was general manager at Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Estate in George, South Africa since year 2002.

Fancourt was host to a number of prestigiou­s events such as the President’s Cup 2003, the Women’s World Cup 2005, the South African Open 2005 and Nelson Mandela 46664 rock concert that features celebritie­s and artists likeWill Smith, Queen and Katie Malua.

Fancourt too won numerous awards, including the 2004 Golf Resort of the Year award by the Internatio­nal Associatio­n of Golf Tour Operators.

Thielke has over 25 years experience in the hotel, golf and club industries.
