KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is confident that Barisan Nasional will win big in Sarawak in the coming general election.

“I have no doubt because the coalition is very strong in the state,” he said during a meet-the-people session at Kampung Sungai Apong Baru here yesterday.

“This is despite the fact that the Opposition has been instigating the people with all sorts of lies against the Barisan Government and its leaders,” he added.

Muhyiddin, who is on a three-day visit to Sarawak, said Barisan needed the people’s mandate to continue developing the state and the country.

He said the Federal Government had always been attentive to the needs of the people in Sarawak, and the Government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, wanted to make sure that those living in urban and rural areas would not be left out.

“This is why Sarawak receives more funds for development projects than some other states,” he noted.

Muhyiddin urged the people to remain united, adding that their solidarity was the foundation

behind nation-building andd development.

Muhyiddin also announced a grant of RM500,000 to rebuild and furnish the dilapidated Kampung Sungai Apong Baru community hall.

Earlier, village community leader Jeffery Kemping said the hall was too small for the growing population.

He said the resettlement area with 250 lots was established in 1975 and the residents comprised Chinese, Iban and Bidayuh.

Muhyiddin also dropped by at the home of the late Datuk Kanang Langkau and met his widow Datin Brawang Chunggut.

He visited Sungai Apong Community Farmlet where a new project aimed at helping the poor earn a living was in progress.
