Stop teenagers consuming alcohol

-

I DECIDED to use public transportation to go to Batu Caves for the Thaipusam celebrations.

Hats off to KTM for providing the extra trips to Batu Caves.

Anyway, I was shocked to see some young boys consuming alcohol on the train.

I was appalled to see this as these teenagers were supposed to be devotees of Lord Muruga. They were making so much noise on the train. As I was travelling with my family, I did not want to pass any remarks.

When I reached Batu Caves, I also noticed that some boys were consuming alcohol in the vicinity of the temple.

The organisers and volunteers had put in their hearts and souls to organise such a mega event attended by more than a million devotees and a small group’s demoralising attitude has really tarnished the event.

The trend of consuming alcohol in public places like playgrounds and roadsides among youngsters is on the rise.

Therefore, community leaders and parents should play a pivotal role in educating them from young.

Parents should monitor their children as this habit will definitely destroy their future.

My appeal to the youngsters is, we are known for our hard work and being filial to parents, not for alcohol.

Please STOP this nonsense. DR MAHENDRAN MANIAM Seri Kembangan, Selangor
