PETALING JAYA: Adrian Ang (pic) is back in training and that’s good news for national bowling coach Holloway Cheah.

Adrian, who took a prolonged break since October last year to recover from a ligament tear on his right ring finger picked up at the 2011 Indonesia SEA Games, reported for training at the start of this month.

With Adrian back in the fold, Holloway now has more options to pick his men’s team for the Brunswick Euro Challenge in Munich from March 1924.

“Now, they have to fight for their places to go to Munich because we can only bring six men and six women bowlers,” said Holloway.

Holloway have seven bowlers in the men’s squad. Besides Adrian, the others are Zulmazran Zulkifli, Alex Liew, Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek, Muhd Nur Aiman Khairuddin, Isaac Russell Paul and Aris Ardila Santosoh.

Also under consideration by Holloway is 16-year-old Mohd Rafiq Ismail, a Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) special squad trainee. Rafiq finished a creditable third in the International Bowling Championships in Nagoya, Japan, from Jan 1519.

Holloway said there would be a roll-off to select the final six after the Chinese New Year.

“Adrian’s progress is a bit slow since he made his comeback. But that is expected and he still has time. He is an experienced bowler who can cope with the challenges,” said Holloway.
