Experienced Felix to guide Selangor in Sukma

SUBANG: The Selangor Shooting Association (SSA) is upping the ante for this year’s Malaysian Games (Sukma) – they’ve brought in veteran coach Felix Ho.

SSA vice-president Adam Tee said Felix, a former national and Perak coach, would be involved in developing talents in the state.

“We’re very interested in developing young shooters and we want new talents to come through our programme. With Sukma coming up, hopefully we will be able to really put our stamp on it.

At 73, Felix brings with him a wealth of experience that spans five decades from being a national shooter in the 1970s to coaching the national team in the early to mid 1980s.

Selangor-born Felix also had a coaching stint in Canada from 1987 to 1994 before returning to Malaysia to manage shooting events during the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.

As Perak’s coach, he produced many top shooters like Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi, brothers Hisham Adzha and Hafiz Adzha.

“From my observation, I can see that the Selangor shooters are lacking a lot of technical details. As shooters, your basics have to be strong. There is no room for flaws,” said Felix.

“When you release your shot, you have to apply a follow-through, just like golf, instead of looking at the target to see where you hit. Then only can you analyse it properly. They also lack trigger control.

“They might have the knowledge but without the right application they won’t see results. So we will start with theory and work on how to apply it effectively.”

This year’s Sukma will be in Kuala Lumpur from June 28-July 7.
