Budget buyers get a little Latitude

-

DELL has expanded its Latitude 10 Windows 8 tablet line-up with the introduction of its essentials configuration model.

Targeted at consumers on a budget, the essentials model has omitted several features available on the standard configuration offering.

Among the missing options include the swappable battery pack that allows users to replace the main with a backup when running low on juice; a micro USB port (use for charging only); and an LED flash for the rear camera. Also, the essentials model supports only a passive stylus when the standard version can utilise the Wacom Active Stylus which makes it easier to capture signatures and take notes with pinpoint precision.

Other that those differences, all Latitude 10 tablets are powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 processor operating at 1.8GHz. Paired with 2GB of RAM and an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, users can expect a smooth computing experience, Dell said.

The devices have a 10.1in IPS display which offers a resolution of up to 1,366 x 768pixels and the screen is Gorilla Glass to help survive drops and resist scratches.

Amagnesium alloy frame offers enhanced durability while the soft touch housing makes these tablets easy to hold.

Thanks to a full-sized USB port, users are able to connect peripherals such as printers and external hard disks with ease, just like they can with a laptop or PC.

Users can also get an optional productivity dock with front USB port and audio jack, three USB ports, as well as Ethernet and HDMI slots to connect to an external display, keyboard or other devices for a desktop-like environment.

The essentials model ships with 64GB of internal storage, which users can easily expand via a builtin Secure Digital card reader. It retails for RM1,799. ++++ www.dell.com
