Tragic outing for six friends
Only one survives car crash in Senai
KULAIJAYA: An outing for six friends ended in tragedy when five of them died in a car crash in Senai here.
One of the dead was a young man who was to be engaged to the sole survivor Nor Syarifah Hazwani Bardaidi, 21.
Nor Syarifah said all of them had attended a get-together at a mamak restaurant and they were returning home when the accident occurred at about 2.30am yesterday.
“I fell asleep on the way while my boyfriend Mohd Fadzli drove us back to Johor Baru.
“I was suddenly awakened by a loud bang. Seconds later, I realised that all my friends were covered in blood. I panicked but managed to climb out and flag down the driver of a lorry,” she said at the Hospital Sultanah Aminah.
She only suffered minor injuries and scratches on her hands.
The dead were identified as Mohd Fadzli Mohd Fakri, 20, from Melor, Kelantan, Hairul Adham Hamidan, 26, from Klebang Besar, Malacca, Nazierul Khalies Mohd Ashari, 19, from Taman Setia Tropika, Johor Baru, Nor’ain Alias, 23, from Kota Tinggi and Siti Sabariah Mohd Norddin, 24, from Temangan, Kelantan. All five reportedly died on the spot.
Nor Syarifah said she and Mohd Fadzli were supposed to get engaged soon.
“He had also planned to meet my family in Sik, Kedah, this Hari Raya,” she said.
Mohd Fadzli’s mother Makziah Yaakob, 45, said Hari Raya would never be the same again without her fourth child.
“My son bought me a baju kurung for Hari Raya. He never did that before,” she said.
Hairul Adham’s wife Norhidayah Abu Bakar, 26, said her husband had taken her and their two-year-old son Danish for grocery shopping before he went out to meet his friends at 10.30pm on Tuesday night.
“He told me that it was the last time he could take me grocery shopping as he was unable to take Hari Raya leave,” she said.
Nor’ain’s mother Zabudah Mohamad, 61, was too distraught to speak to reporters.
Kulaijaya OCPD Supt Zulkefly Yahya said the accident took place along KM21 Jalan Johor Baru-Air Hitam (Senai) after the driver of the Honda Odyssey allegedly lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a lamp post and a tree.
He urged witnesses to call the police hotline at 07-221 2999.
