Murder of trainee will worry parentss

-

MALAYSIANS as a whole cannot fathom why a National Service trainee was murdered by his fellow trainees just because he had jumped the queue during breakfast ( The Star, Sept 25).

It a misunderstanding which can be resolved easily if the participants at the Pingir Pelangi National Service camp were not hot- headed and made a big fuss over a small matter.

One can also question the role of the instructors at the camp who should be more proactive in stopping the trainees from fighting among themselves while they are in the camp.

Previously, the death of other trainees were caused by accidents or heath issues suffered by the participants at National Service but this is the first time someone was murdered while undergoing training.

The death will send jitters to other parents who will have to send their children to National Service centres in the future as their safety cannot be guaranteed if the authorities do not tighten safety and security at the camps.

One senseless death and a very bleak future for the three trainees who were implicated for the murder does not augur well for National Service training for school leavers who are required to attend the three months of training.

The whole idea of having the training stint is to foster better relationship among the younger generation of Malaysians, regardless of race and creed.

Sadly, the opposite is taking place at these so-called national camps. What a crying shame! HAMDAN IBRAHIM Kuala Lumpur
