Further improvements needed at JB CIQ complex

-

ON my two recent visits to Singapore via the JB CIQ, I observed that the cars of officers were no longer parked along the sidelanes inside the complex anymore.

Syabas to the higher-ups who issued this order which is being followed.

But there can be further improvements, looking at the current daily day-long Causeway jams, especially on the Singapore/Johor Baru side. Among them are:

> All lanes should be kept open as I noted recently that one of the four available lanes was closed on the Singapore/Johor Baru arrival point;

> Police enforcement at strategic junctions should be consistent to prevent queue-jumping on both points of entry into the CIQ complex;

> Rela officers can be deployed to help the police in the above instead of unnecessarily directing vehicles into the immigration lanes inside the CIQ. Drivers can see for themselves which is the best lane to take; and

> If all the booths cannot be opened, at least ensure the officers occupy the booths on the drivers’ side so that drivers of single-occupancy vehicles need not exit their vehicles to hand over their passports and pay the toll, thus prolonging the queues; and

Plus should install traffic-surveillance cameras at strategic sections of the CIQ.

Follow Singapore’s LTA (its equivalent) which has video-cameras to monitor traffic at Woodlands and on its half of the Causeway which the public can access via our phones through the Internet. JB JO Johor Baru
