Investigations into tragic incident almost concluded
SHAH ALAM: Investigations into the incident that killed marshal Satish Suppiah and rider Muhammad Izzat Mohd Abdul Hakim at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) recently are almost concluded with findings leading to it being classified as a “race incident”.
SIC chief executive officer Datuk Razlan Razali said investigations are coming to a close as reports from stewards point out that Satish had followed all the protocols as a marshal. In the incident on Saturday, Satish, 44, was waving the chequered flag at the end of the practice session of the Malaysian Super Series (MSS) race before Izzat, 17, ploughed into him at high speed at the home straight.
Satish succumbed to his injuries at the Putrajaya Hospital on Saturday while Izzat succumbed to a severe head injury on Wednesday at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
“There were no indications that any parties were negligible on their part. Satish waved the flag on the ground according to protocol. It was just a tragic accident,” he said.
“The report of the incident has been sent to the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) andweare still waiting to hear from them if we need to change the protocol.”
SIC will be in the spotlight next month as the Malaysian Grand Prix will be held from Oct 11-13. Two years ago, Italian Marco Simoncelli was killed during the MotoGP race at the circuit.
“We haven’t heard from FIM yet, but they would probably reply us after the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain this weekend,” added Razlan.
Razlan was present at a press conference to announce RapidKL as the official public transport for the Malaysian Grand Prix. Present for RapidKL was Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Zohari Sulaiman.
RapidKL will provide bus services to SIC from KLCC, KL Sentral and the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang from fares as low as RM10.
