Boy who lost sister on the mend

PETALING JAYA: The seven-year-old son of the couple who tried to commit suicide twice in Sri Manja is slowly recovering from the family tragedy that left his sister dead.

An uncle, who is taking care of him now, said his family was trying to help the boy move on from this traumatic episode.

“We are getting on the best we can. We hope people can give us some privacy as this is a difficult time for us,” said the uncle.

A family friend said that the boy had even gone back to school.

“He is okay and is being well taken care of by the extended family.

“I wish I knew that his parents were going through tough times. I never knew they had financial difficulties. They always seemed all right,” he said.

It was reported that the child’s parents had first attempted suicide on Sept 11 at their apartment in Sri Manja Square, off Old Klang Road, by burning charcoal in the master bedroom while they and their two children slept there. However, the attempt was unsuccessful.

The next day, the parents attempted suicide again which resulted in the death of their fiveyear-old daughter.

The girl’s body was discovered on Sept 18 after her kindergarten teacher told her classmate’s parent to check on the girl because she had been absent from school for five days.

Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohammed said investigations into the attempted suicides were wrapping up and that the parents were expected to be charged on Monday.

The man, in his 50s, and his wife, in her 40s, have been remanded until Tuesday to facilitate police investigations.
