Don’t let agents and employers off the hook

-

I THANK the Government for its crackdown on illegal immigrants recently.

The Immigration Department is doing a good job but they have forgotten to arrest the real culprits – the agents that bring in these illegals.

These agents make all sorts of sweet promises to these workers such as good pay and lodging but do not see fit to hire them legally.

The shocking thing is that when such raids take place, these illegals do not get their salary, and it is becoming more apparent that the bosses can escape just like that.

Some of the employers of these illegal immigrants are getting away with hundreds of thousands of ringgit, with some contractors owing over RM1mil, which is the income for their workers.

On the other hand, these illegal immigrants, who had painstakingly worked for the money, do not get paid.

They suffer and their families back home suffer too.

So the real beneficiaries are the employers who hire these workers.

To put an end to this, the authorities must take action against these “agents” and those who hire these men illegally, and also those who withhold their income.

The government should set up a job agency for these foreigners, so that they will be hired legally and go through the due process.

Perhaps there should be a task force set up to go after the agents who bring in these workers illegally.

There are many foreigners who were deported have since returned.

This shows that there are many leaks at our checkpoints and they must be plugged.

The first step is to stop the same illegal workers from coming back and impose a hefty penalty on those who do. YUSOFF KHAN Teluk Intan
