Jugra Stadium in poor state

-

I REFER to the article “Stadium everywhere, but…” ( The Star, Sept 27) and agree fully with the writer on the sad state of some of our stadiums.

I live in Banting, Selangor which is not far from the Jugra Stadium, which has a running track built some 50 years ago.

Sadly, nothing is done to maintain the track although there are about 10 schools using the stadium for their annual sports meet.

Whoever runs with their spikes on that damaged track will surely injure their feet.

So, how do you expect athletes from the schools to do well when in the first place the stadium track is not fit for sprints and long distance running?

I wonder what are the schools doing about the problem other than forcing their students to run on that damaged track!

It is time that people who are responsible for the upkeep of the stadium track do something concrete for the future of Kuala Langat athletes.

As an athletics coach, I currently have no choice but to travel some 40km to the Kota Raja Stadium in Klang to train my athletes.

I hope the Kuala Langat District Council and the relevant authorities would act quickly to rectify the damage at the Jugra Stadium so that the young and old can utilise the track without having to worry about getting injured.

Let us improve sports for the country! MURUGAN MANIAM Banting
