Devils to stop the rot
RELIEF. That is what the win against Liverpool in the League Cup felt like to me. It certainly exorcised the trauma of last weekend. Yes, I was overjoyed too because at least I can get back at my colleagues and friends who have been giving me stick this past week. David Moyes is adamant he will succeed at Manchester United and has vowed to “fix it” and “turn around” the troubled champions. United have made their worst start to a league season in nine years and have lost to rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in Moyes’ first five league games. But after the midweek win over Liverpool, the Scot has voiced his confidence that he will succeed at Old Trafford.
Manchester City ensured David Moyes’ first derby as Manchester United manager ended in abject humiliation with a crushing victory at the Etihad last week.
United may have been without Robin van Persie because of a groin strain but the absence of one player – no matter how significant – cannot account for the manner in which Moyes’ side were utterly outclassed.
ForMoyes, itmeanshehasemerged without a win from the three toughest games of his opening Premier League phase as United’s manager, drawing at home to Chelsea and losing to Liverpool and now City. Having said that, six of United’s 13 Premier League titles have seen them win only two of their opening five games.
The team were poor against Man City. I don’t understand why Ashley Young has had so much game time this season. He needs to be dropped and Shinji Kagawa, who gave a good account of himself midweek, should be involved more. Personally I would have wanted Danny Welbeck out left, Wayne Rooney up top and Kagawa slipping in behind. I felt Marouane Fellaini looked lost a lot of the time and I’m not sure he fully knows his role yet. But I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Yes, the scoreline was embarrassing, but out of Chelsea, Man City and United, United are the only team who have only lost to teams from the top six and both defeats were away losses. If wedroppoints in our next few league games against the likes of West Brom, Sunderland, Southampton, Stoke and Fulham then I’ll be a bit more pessimistic.
Poor performance but tough start out the way, now it is time to kick on! Starting with today’s match against West Brom, I expect United to go ona long unbeaten run in the league. Van Persie will be back, Rooney is on fire, together with Nani who is looking sharp. So, better times ahead.
United have had some tough games so far. I know champions are expected to beat all in front of them, but look at the results so far, no one team has been outright amazing.
During the whole of the 2012-13 English Premier League season the lead changed hands only four times. So far after five games this season, it has changed hands seven times. It’s been full of thrills and spills and we are only a month in. Randeep Singh is sure United will bag all three points today and kickstart their season.
