PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Moto3 rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin posted the fifth fastest time in the free practice sessions of the Aragon Grand Prix in Spain yesterday.

In a bid to revive his season in the world championship after a string of poor results that put him in ninth spot on 60 points, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider blazed the tracks in 2:00.924, just 1.123 seconds behind Alex Rins (Estrella Galicia) who set the fastest time of 1:59.801.

Last year, Zulfahmi managed to qualify seventh on the grid at Aragon. However, he failed to complete the race as he crashed with six laps to go after leading much of the race.

Zulfahmi was delighted with his performance yesterday.

“I’m really happy with the results and I think it is the best practice session for me this season.

“In the beginning we wanted to save the tyres for tomorrow’s (today) qualifying. We managed to do so but we still need to work hard.

“The gap with the fastest guy is one second and we have to work more to close the gap. I just need to improve in the corners but I’m confident we can do it,” added Zulfahmi.

Meanwhile, Moto2 rider Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman posted the 28th fastest time during the practice sessions with 1:57.786.

“It was quite a difficult session for me even though I like the layout. I’m still learning the track,” said the Honda Team Asia rider.
