Liow: Beef up patrols in area and bring vandals to book
KARAK: A civic-minded community ensures continuous development of a country, besides pitching in to help make the society a better one, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
He reminded the people that it was their duty to take care of public amenities which were put up to cater to their needs.
“Help the Government make this place a sustainable environment and comfortable to live in,” he said yesterday after being told that vandalism was getting rampant in this town during his Chinese New Year rounds here.
Liow urged the police to beef up their patrols and bring the vandals to book.
“Please make sure that the parents are informed of their children’s wrongdoings,” he said, calling on the adults to educate the youngsters about being civic-minded.
Liow also promised to repair a multipurpose hall in Taman Sri Bayu here and other amenities that were damaged due to vandalism.
He also promised to set up a storeroom at the Taman Karak Jaya’s multipurpose hall and promised to build a hall in Taman Hijau for the people’s benefit.
In conjunction with International Women’s Day yesterday, Liow said women had always played a crucial role in society besides being the pillar of their family.
“Today, I am glad to see that women have made great progress and achievements in the country,” he said, citing that more than 60% of universities’ enrolment were women.
Liow said women also played an important role in educating the children as they made up about 90% of the total number of teachers in the country.
Later in Sri Telemong, about 10km from here, Liow said he would get the Department of Environment to check on the foul odour from a chicken farm nearby and to make sure that the farm adhered to all regulations set by the authorities.
