Get on track towards a better lifestyle
RHB helping people get fit with TrEx at Broga Hill
SEMENYIH: There is an old saying that it is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.
Applying this adage is RHB Banking Group deputy group managing director Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli, who hiked up Broga Hill with some 100 of his staff and senior management along with 11 students from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
“Exercising is not just about getting healthier but it is about pushing yourself to test your limits and capabilities,” said Khairussaleh, adding that this was the spirit that they wanted to inculcate among the staff.
The 47-year-old explained that the staff saw the importance of the event and participated despite each individual having varying levels of fitness.
“It’s not just about work but also about having fun and doing things together,” he said.
While the banking industry could be stressful, Khairussaleh said the staff needed to take the effort to implement a healthy lifestyle.
“They may have to wake up earlier to come here, though” he chuckled.
The event was part of the group’s latest corporate responsibility initiative under the environment pillar.
Called the Trail Experience (TrEx), it involved the adoption of a specific hill within or close to the Klang Valley.
During the three-year adoption period of Broga Hill, which began six months ago, RHB will maintain and make the hill more accessible to the public, with the aim of providing opportunities to appreciate nature while living healthy lifestyles.
The group had carved a new trail to reduce congestion for hikers when ascending and descending the hill.
“We have also put in ropes, signage and steps for hikers.
“We want to create public awareness on the importance of being healthy while also playing our part as a responsible corporation in keeping the environment clean and ourselves healthy,” said Khairussaleh.
Also present at the event last Saturday was RHB Bank Berhad chairman Tan Sri Azlan Zainol, 65, who hiked up the 400m peak.
“We want to encourage good health among our staff as well as allow them to bond and build good rapport with each other,” he said.
