Spurs to play Malaysian Selection in May

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian fans will get a chance to see Harry Kane, the new England sensation, in action next month.

The 21-year-old Kane will lead the Tottenham Hotspur attack when the English Premier League side take on the Malaysia Selection in a friendly at the Shah Alam Stadium on May 27.

Kane has had a stunning season so far with 29 goals for Spurs as well as marking his senior England debut against Lithuania with a goal in the 4-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win last month.

Fans can expect Kane to arrive with the rest of the first team squad including captain and France No. 1 goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen and Andros Townsend who scored the equaliser for England against Italy in their 1-1 friendly draw last week.

“We are looking forward to giving our fans in Malaysia a chance to see us play,” said Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino in a statement.

Spurs legend Ledley King, who was present in yesterday’s press conference, said: “It will be a good experience for the Malaysian players to play against top European footballer­s.

“It will put them in good stead for the future.”

This will be the London-based club’s first visit since 1979. Then, they thrashed the Malaysian Selection 4-0.

Mark Falco scored a hat-trick with Lee Colin contributi­ng the other goal.

National coach Dollah Salleh said they would use the friendly as part of their preparatio­ns for the World Cup qualifiers in June.

“We will make sure that we don’t lose, especially 2-0 or 3-0 to them.

“I hope my players will take back with them lessons from the Tottenham players,” said Dollah.

After Malaysia, Spurs will head to Sydney for a friendly with Sydney FC at the ANZ Stadium on May 30.
