Hunt on for rM25mil drug mastermind
Wider net cast following recent bust
KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is tracking down members of a syndicate responsible for bringing some RM25mil worth of drugs into the country.
Following the recent bust by the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) last Friday, police have cast a wider net in search of the mastermind and more syndicate members.
“We will double our efforts to hunt down the rest of the syndicate members.
“They must be brought to justice as soon as possible,” said Federal Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff.
On Friday, 2.8kg of heroin and 120.65kg of syabu worth a total of RM25mil were seized following arrests at the KL International Airport and Mutiara Kompleks at Jalan Ipoh.
“We estimate the drugs are worth about RM25mil, but the street value can easily double the amount,” he said.
Comm Mohd Mokhtar said Bukit Aman would continue to work with counterparts from other countries in the war against drug trafficking, including with Thailand’s Police Narcotics Suppression Bureau and Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau.
He added that the heroin seized in the latest bust was brought in by a Venezuelan man while the syabu was delivered via courier from China.
Between January and June this year, a total of RM130.93mil worth of drugs have been seized. Among the drugs were 613kg of syabu, 376,868 ecstasy pills and 31.39kg of ketamine.
“Our department also arrested 89,443 people, including 9,404 drug pushers so far this year.
“We also uncovered 19 drug labs in the country.
“Mark my words, we will not stop until the war against drugs has been won,” he said.
