The Star Malaysia

In search of winning entries

PACKAGES complete with artwork have been arriving at Menara Star in Petaling Jaya since June 19.

It’s that time of the year when schools across Malaysia send in their entries to the annual Newspaper-in-Education (NiE) contest organised by The Star. This year’s NiE contest, called

We Are Malaysia, required students to create Public Service Announcements (PSAs) conveying strong character-building messages about what it means to be united as a nation.

The poster, crafted using either photography or illustration, are to be fitted with a suitable headline, body copy and slogan.

Currently in the midst of sifting through the entries for potential winners is Star Media Group (formerly known as Star Publications (M) Bhd) NiE editorial manager Sharon Ovinis.

“We are still in the process of looking for entries that will blow us away!” Ovinis said.

What’s for certain is that one of these entries will see a team enjoy a minimum five-day study trip to Britain sponsored by Taylor’s University. This trip is the grand prize that all participants are vying for in the Secondary category.

The Primary category grand prize winners, on the other hand, will win a three-day, two-night all-expenses-paid trip to Universal Studios Singapore.

Runners up winners will each win RM1,000 worth of phone vouchers. Both prizes are

This annual Star-NiE contest is supported by the Education Ministry. The contest finale is slated for Sept 15 at the Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus in Petaling Jaya.

Keep watching this space to find out if your team has been short-listed for the Merit and Outstanding Awards!
