Paralysed e guard gets a wheelchair in time for Raya

-

Help has come in time for former security guard Mat Miskam Kompol – the bedridden cancer patient will have better mobility this Hari Raya, thanks to the gift of a new recliner wheelchair.

After spending the past seven years lying flat on an old mattress due to his paralysed state, Mat Miskam’s spirits were lifted when he tested Socso’s present.

And there was even more heart-warming news when Socso pledged to supply him with milk and diapers every month and send him a new bed worth RM10,000 next month.

His wife Norlidah A. Hamid, 49, said tragedy struck the family when their home in Kampung Ladang, Gelang Patah, was gutted in 2008.

“He went into a severe state of shock after learning that our house was razed, causing his blood pressure to surge,” she told reporters at her home in PPR Kempas Permai here yesterday.

Mat Miskam suffered a further blow when doctors diagnosed him with stage-four liver cancer in March.

Norlidah said the wheelchair would be of great help to her husband as they lived on the ninth floor.

“Usually, I wait for my children to help me take him downstairs to catch a taxi to the hospital,” Norlidah said.

Johor Socso deputy director Tong Sing Chuang said the department was informed of Mat Miskam’s plight on June 30.

He said the department would do its best to provide Mat Miskam with a monthly pension.
