Voter study by Johor Umno

Special team to look into social factors ahead of polls

-

JOHOR BARU: Johor Umno will set up a special team to study the state’s electoral seats in preparation for the 14th general election, says state Umno chairman Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

In a speech to Johor party members yesterday, he said the team would look at the trends, changes and opinions of the electorate and also to identify specific issues in these respective areas.

“We will take the necessary steps from the data compiled from the study to solve them before the elections,” he added.

Mohamed Khaled’s speech text was given to journalists who were barred from entering the ballroom where the meeting was held at Persada Johor International Convention Centre here.

The closed-door meeting was attended by Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Mohamed Khaled said the study on electoral seats would use three methodologies, namely field studies, targeted group discussions and one-on-one interviews.

He added that eight people had been sent to Sabah to be trained by the National Professors Council.

Mohamed Khaled said the second initiative was to outline the Johor Umno manifesto and its preparation for the elections.

He said the party would organise a series of townhall meetings to get feedback from Umno and non-Umno members and their hopes for Johor and the country.

Meanwhile, Johor Umno liaison committee information chief Datuk Samsol Bahri Jamali said Dr Ahmad Zahid had advised the party’s members to accept the current reality facing Umno.

He said the deputy president told them to work harder to change the negative perception towards the party by the members themselves and the rakyat.
