Guru out to show his worth with Crocs

PETALING JAYA: Forgotten man K. Gurusamy is ready to remind everyone what he’s all about after joining Sarawak this season.

The highly-rated midfielder had an underwhelming spell with Selangor in the Super League from 2012-2015, winning only the Malaysia Cup last season.

Now, he wants to prove his qualities with the success-starved Crocs.

The 27-year-old, who married Sharmina Subramaniam on Nov 1 last year, feels that Kuching is the right place to reboot his career.

“I hope this Year of the Monkey will bring me fortune with my new team,” said the Semenyih local.

“I that felt my career was stagnating. I needed a change of scenery to become a better player ... so, the move the Sarawak.

“I think that marriage forces you to become more matured. I’m much more relaxed now ... especially since I’ll be getting home-cooked food after training!”

Gurusamy got his budding career got off to a good start – winning the AFF Suzuki Cup in 2010 with the national team. He also won the SEA Games twice – in 2009 and 2011 – with the Under-23 team.

But it’s been all downhill since he joined Selangor – partly due to injuries. A torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and a hamstring injury kept him on the treatment table for most of last season.

Describing the injury hell as a “learning curve, the battling midfielder can’t wait to play under his former national coach Datuk K. Rajagopal, who aims to end Sarawak’s wait for a silverware.

“I played under coach Raja with the Harimau Muda A squad and the national team. So, when he offered me the chance to play for Sarawak, I just couldn’t say no,” said Guru.
