KUALA SELANGOR: Single mother Zuriyana Marsunit (pic) will forever be haunted by the screams of her sons who were trapped in their village home as an early morning fire razed it.

The fire claimed the lives of sons Muhammad Darnish Irfan Muhd Azmi (pic left), 15, and Muhammad Darnish Israk (pic right), 14, and destroyed the home.

The 38-year-old clerk said she woke up at about 4am yesterday to use the toilet and saw flames coming from her sons’ room, which was next to hers.

“I heard my eldest screaming ‘Ibu tolong! Aduh sakit!’ (Mother, help! It hurts!) but I could not get to their room because the fire had quickly spread.

“I alerted my mother who was sleeping in a room at the back and brought her out.

“After that I tried to get into the boys’ room from the outside but couldn’t.

“It was too hot and there were several small explosions,” said Zuriyana, who suffered minor burns on her head, face and hands.

There was nothing she could do but watch in horror as the fire raged and firemen fought the blaze, she said at the scene yesterday.

Zuriyana described her sons as blessings from her marriage, she and her husband divorced about 14 years ago.

They had been living with her mother and uncle at the semi-wooden house while she worked at a car company in Port Klang.

She last saw her sons before they left for school on Wednesday.

Her mother Sainah Saidi, 71, recalled seeing a piece of burning ceiling falling in front of her grandsons’ room as she was being rushed out of the house.

“The fire spread so fast, we could not save the kids,” she sobbed.

The boys were buried at the Bukit Badong Muslim cemetery nearby at about 12.30pm after post-mortems at the Tanjung Karang Hospital.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated, he said.
