Liow: More can own houses soon
Several projects set in motion in Bentong
BENTONG: More Bentong residents will be able to own houses soon as several affordable housing projects in the constituency have been set in motion, says its MP Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
“Houses are a basic need of the rakyat. To ensure it is affordable, we have to ensure the cost is as low as possible,” Liow said during the offer letter presentation ceremony to some 129 owners of newly-built affordable houses in Simpang Pelangai.
Apart from Simpang Pelangai, Liow announced that other affordable housing projects had been approved in Ketari and Bilut.
“As the MP of Bentong, I have told Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that we need more affordable housing here,” he said.
Liow urged applicants who did not receive the offer to be patient, as the Government is in the midst of building more.
“We could not give everyone (a house) in one go. But we will put in effort to increase the number of houses here,” he said.
Present at the function was Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob who said each unit was sold at RM30,000 – some RM40,000 below construction cost.
“The state bears the remaining costs. Our goal is to help the rakyat as much as possible,” he said.
Echoing Liow’s sentiments, Adnan said affordable housing was the Government’s top priority.
Proving his claims, he pointed out that the state had constructed 33,000 affordable houses in the past two-and-a-half years, more than double the number promised during the 2013 general election.
He added that the Pahang state exco had approved for an additional 100 affordable houses to be built at Simpang Pelangai.
Adnan also advised the new owners present not to spend beyond their means but to service their loans promptly.
“Learn from the Chinese. Do not go ber jolly (enjoy yourselves) once you get your salary. Save up and pay your instalments.
“Do not splurge on handphones, new clothes or things you cannot afford. Pay your housing instalments first,” he told the Malay majority crowd.
