THE CIMB scholars are high achievers who know what they want and are versatile in other aspects of life.

For the first time, the CIMB Group is launching the CIMB Asean Scholarship. It is offering 20 full scholarships for first degree programmes at any reputable university of choice.

The scholarship is open to citizens of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia who are current undergraduates, or are about to begin their degree programmes.

CIMB Group group chief people officer Hamidah Naziadin said: “We welcome independent-thinkers who are also team-players.”

“We want people who can think both in terms of the big picture and analytically, and also have high EQ.

“Understand what CIMB stands for and show us how you can fit in as a member of #teamCIMB.

“Show us how your aptitude, life experience, passion and interests can contribute to CIMB’s goals and aspirations as a leading Asean universal bank,” she added.

“We are open to any discipline of study that is related to our business.

“We have taken in and continue to take in high academic achievers from all disciplines beyond finance and banking. For instance, many of our people come from backgrounds such as engineering, actuarial science and law,” she said.

Hamidah said a unique part of the scholarship is that recipients will be exposed to programmes and initiatives that will not only help them in their studies, but also prepare them to be career-ready with CIMB.

“This comprises, among others, a buddy system where the scholars are paired with CIMB bankers for hands-on learning and training, networking opportunities with senior management, and involvement in CIMB’s Asean-related programmes,” she said.

The buddy programme is to help scholars in their undergraduate journey as well as prepare them for working life in CIMB later.

“The ‘buddies’ appointed as mentors will most likely be a few years older than the scholars, for them to learn more effectively from the mentors’ career progression,” she said.

CIMB Group group chief executive Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz said: “Our scholarship scheme demonstrates our commitment to play a more active role in grooming future leaders who will in turn, support the growth of Asean, consistent with the aspirations of the CIMB Group.”

The core objective, he added, is to provide a holistic development programme to nurture these scholars into accomplished professionals who are not only intellectual, but also equipped with the necessary soft skills to succeed in a highly competitive environment.

“One key draw for the scholars would be an opportunity to be placed in any of the 17 countries where the Group operates,” he said.

Hamidah said there will also be opportunities for interaction with senior management through talks and engagement sessions.

Scholarship recipients havve to serve the CIMB Group after the compleetion of their studies.

Shortlisting will be done oover several steps. These include an onlinne aptitude assessment, assessment centtre and panel interview.
