Girl Guides honour Yeoh with Srikandi Award
LANGKAWI: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd executive director Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng has been honoured with the Srikandi Award by the Girl Guides Association for her voluntary service to the country.
Yeoh, who is also Girl Guides Kuala Lumpur branch president, received the award from Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah at the grand ballroom of the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC) here yesterday.
The award was given after the opening of the 2015/2016 Girl Guides Association Malaysia annual general meeting.
Yeoh, 52, said there was no Queen’s Guides in Kuala Lumpur for 20 years when she came in as the president of Girl Guides Kuala Lumpur.
“I set a mission to make guiding fun by introducing a slogan ‘Guiding is Fun in Kuala Lumpur’ and a vision to have 100 Queen’s Guides when we celebrate 100 years of Guiding in KL.
“We actually have 109 Queen’s Guides in Kuala Lumpur.
“So, we are very proud of our achievement and would like to thank all our trainers, commissioners and girls,” she said.
Yeoh also extended her thanks to the Ministry of Education and Kuala Lumpur City Hall for their assistance and support in helping to accomplish her mission and vision.
The Queen’s Guide is the highest level of achievement for guides.
Yeoh, 52, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Civil Engineering from Leeds University in 1985, is currently a member of the board of directors of YTL Corporation Berhad, YTL Cement Berhad, YTL Power International Berhad and YTL E-Solution Berhad.
She is also an active board member of the National Executive Board of Girl Guides Association Malaysia.
Earlier, National Board Girl Guides Association Malaysia deputy president Raja Puan Besar Perak Raja Nor Mahani Raja Shahar Shah was also honoured with the Paduka Srikandi Award.
In her speech earlier, Girl Guides Association Malaysia president Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said the Girl Guides Association Malaysia had indeed drawn many successes locally and internationally.
“To further consolidate our existence, we have targeted our membership which is now at 85,000 members to reach 100,000 in 2017.
Meanwhile, Bank Negara Malaysia also issued commemorative coins in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Girl Guides Association Malaysia.
The bank issued two specifications of the coins – the Coloured Silver commemorative coin and the Nordic Gold coin.
