Family fun while learning about digestive health

-

THE Vitagen Healthy Digestive Roadshow was held as part of the World Digestive Health Day (WDHD) 2016 celebrations recently.

Visitors enjoyed a host of family-oriented activities such as colouring contests, fitness demonstrations, and numerous educational and interactive activities.

Popular with the crowd was the free health screening and educational advice from gastroenterology nurses, fitness experts and nutritionists.

The newest highlight for this year’s roadshow was the online Digestive Health Assessment Tool (DHAT), which helps indicate the state of a person’s digestive health, and the Digestive Health Malaysia (DHM) Society’s colorectal cancer screening show reel, which was an interesting motion graphic depicting the various methods used to detect colorectal cancer.

DHM, which organised the roadshow, hopes to create greater awareness among Malaysians about the need to care for their digestive health, encouraging them to be more mindful of it and empowering them to take charge of their digestive health.

During the launch, DHM deputy chairman and consultant gastroenterologist, Assoc Prof Dr Raja Affendi Raja Ali, voiced his concerns about the lack of regular health screening among Malaysians.

“Awareness of digestive disorders among Malaysians is low and this situation must be remedied before it becomes a serious threat.

“Healthy lifestyle practices that include good dietary habits, regular physical activity and avoiding bad habits (such as smoking) can really help reduce the risk of colorectal cancer and other diseases as well,” he said.

The Vitagen Healthy Digestive Programme (VHDP) is the brand’s educational effort.

Vitagen is owned by Malaysia Milk Sdn Bhd.

Representing them at the launch was marketing manager Yap Jay Queen, who reiterated the company’s commitment towards supporting DHM’s mission of bringing greater awareness of the importance of good digestive health amongst Malaysians.

“We take our corporate social responsibilities seriously.

“By providing support to expert professional bodies such as DHM, we hope to give back to society by empowering them with the knowledge that can lead to better digestive health,” she said.

The WDHD 2016 celebrations were held at Sunway Pyramid, Selangor, from May 18-22.

Another series of roadshows will be held in Ipoh and Johor.
