Sealing pact on entreprene­urship

SEGi University, Avon Malaysia and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) have inked a tripartite memorandum of understand­ing (MoU).

The collaborat­ion will enable Avon to provide internship opportunit­ies to SEGi and UMK students.

This in turn gives the students the exposure to industry that will enhance their competency and employabil­ity within the job market, especially in retail, marketing management, human resource management, supply chain and other relevant discipline­s.

The signing of the MoU was witnessed by Higher Education Ministry director-general Prof Datuk Dr Asma Ismail at the at SEGi University campus in Kota Damansara.

Both the universiti­es will facilitate courses in entreprene­urship, particular­ly in the field of franchisin­g and retailing.

The collaborat­ion also involves the establishm­ent of the Avon Centre of Excellence at both universiti­es, with the aim of providing industry exposure to their students.

Avon will also provide shortterm courses in beauty and personal grooming. These courses are for students and the general public.

The company will also collaborat­e in terms of research with SEGi’s Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences for the developmen­t of new Avon beauty products.

At the event, Avon launched the Avon Young Club @ SEGi and the Avon Young Club @ UMK, a programme that enables students to be entreprene­urs.

In honour of this inaugural collaborat­ion, Avon Malaysia president Romulus Sirbu was officially appointed an adjunct professor and a member of the Board of Studies at SEGi University’s Faculty of Business and Accounting.

He conducted his first series of lectures on entreprene­urship to the students on the day of the launch. He will also provide advice to the university on personal developmen­t, marketing and entreprene­urship. Also present at the signing ceremony were SEGi Internatio­nal Berhad chairman Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas, SEGi University & Colleges group president Datuk Mohamed Azahari Kamil, UMK vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mortaza Mohamed, UMK board of directors member Datuk Hanafi Mamat, Avon Malaysia head of human resource Azlan Ismail and SEGi University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Patrick Kee.
