PETALING JAYA: The technicalities in recognising the Unified Examinations Certificate (UEC) have been ironed out, said Deputy Education Minister Chong Sin Woon.

He said the Education Ministry and Higher Education Ministry would be briefed once they were finalised.

“The Prime Minister has instructed us to meet up, finalise and brief both ministries on ways to recognise the UEC.

“There is a series of follow-ups that needs to be done, such as the student enrolment in public universities and how UEC would meet the requirements set by the ministry,” Chong told a press conference after officiating at the 11th National Wushudao Open Championship at Sri KDU International School here yesterday.

He added that it was government policy that all civil service applicants must have at least a credit in the SPM for Bahasa Malaysia and policies like this should be resolved.

Chong said he was looking forward to a meeting between Chinese ministers, Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.

On a separate matter, Chong lashed out at Bersih for swaying from its objective of demanding for a just and clean election.

“Over the years, it has changed its tune, becoming a gathering targeting the Prime Minister and to toppling Barisan Nasional.

“Bersih is not the Bersih that ordinary Malaysians know.

“It has turned from a civil society movement into a politically motivated gathering.

“They are coming up with another Bersih rally and this one particularly targets the Prime Minister,” said Chong, adding that Bersih was supposed to be neutral but the leaders and organisers were all inclined towards Pakatan Harapan.

He claimed that Malaysians did not see the need for another politically motivated Bersih rally.
