Bowler Mohd Firdaus wants to set the record straight

-

FEDERAL Territories’ bowler Mohd Firdaus Idris wants to make amends for his disastrous Sukma 2014 debut in today’s men’s singles competition.

Two years ago in Perlis, the 21-year-old admitted to being a total disaster during the bowling competition’s first event – the men’s singles.

“On the eve of my debut, my family members and friends were calling me up to wish me luck. I became very nervous and couldn’t sleep a wink that night.

“Predictably, I fared badly the following day. I think it was one of my worst performances in a competition,” reflected Firdaus after the official practice session at the Megalanes Sarawak yesterday.

“I’ve waited two years to set the record straight. I’m prepared for the challenge ... I’m calmer now and believe I can get a good night's sleep today.”

Despite the disastrous start, Firdaus got his game back on track in Perlis to help FT win a silver in the men’s team and a bronze in the men’s trios.

In Sarawak, Firdaus has set his sights on capturing the singles gold, and he also believes that the FT men’s squad are good enough to deliver at least three gold medals.

“Compared to the team in Perlis, I feel the current FT side are stronger.

“We got the team silver two years ago, so we should aim for nothing short of gold this time. As for me, I believe I can deliver at least three gold medals for FT.”

The other members of the FT men’s bowling squad are Cheah Yung Ren, Mohd Hafiz Zainuddin, Adam Azzhar, Wan Syahmi Razin and Muhamad Shafiq Adlan.

FT head coach Dzulkarnain Sapian feels that the bowlers’ performance in today’s singles events will be crucial to set the tone.
