AFTER being held in the United Kingdom for the past three years, the Bournemouth University Festival of Learning has now gone global.

The fourth instalment ran concurrently in the United Kingdom, China and Malaysia.

The Malaysian chapter was jointly hosted by Sunway University Malaysia and Bournemouth University UK at the Sunway campus recently.

The aim of the festival was for academicians and students to exchange knowledge for a better understanding of the current and future challenges within the hospitality, culinary and tourism industries.

During the one-day event, participants attended talks, engaged in a cooking demonstration, and visited the delegates gallery and a poster exhibition.

“Bournemouth University’s first Global Festival of Learning is an exciting showcase of education, research and practice,” said D Sonal Minocha, its pro vice-chancellor for global engagement.

Sunway University’s vice-chancellor Prof Graeme Wilkinson said, that with tourism being an economic driver in Malaysia and a huge industry globally, it presented many international job opportunities for graduates.”

He added that it was with such initiatives that students are exposed to the global dimensions of their field.

Bournemouth University’s vice-chancellor Prof John Vinney hoped that the festival would create partnership opportunities between education and research organisations and connect local, national and global communities through their practice networks.

Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) general manager, business events Ho Yoke Ping spoke on Malaysia’s future path as a business events destination during her keynote address at the festival.
