Subra: Two more Tamil schools to open by January 2018
PUTRAJAYA: Two more Tamil schools will open by January 2018, says MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
“They are SJKT Bandar Mahkota Cheras in Kuala Lumpur and SJKT Bandar Seri Alam, Pasir Gudang, Johor,” he said at the school construction acceptance ceremony here yesterday together with Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan.
Dr Subramaniam added that each school could take in between 200 and 300 students.
“These schools are Governmentaided, thus the construction cost will be borne by the Government.
“SJKT Bandar Mahkota Cheras will have a total of 24 classrooms costing RM21mil, while SJKT Bandar Seri Alam will have 18 classrooms costing RM20.7mil,” said Dr Subramaniam, who is also Health Minister.
When questioned about reports claiming that enrolment in Tamil schools was on the decline, Dr Subramaniam said there were areas where the enrolment was decreasing, while in others it was increasing.
On a different matter, Dr Subramaniam said Malaysian Armed Forces chief Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin’s move to welcome medical students to carry out their housemanship with the armed forces was tenable.
“Previously, our doctors were seconded to the Defence Ministry, and would spend two to three years there.
“As such, taking housemen from the Health Ministry is workable,” Jen Zulkifeli said.
He also pointed out that some 4,000 medical students graduate every year.
