Movida accused charged with supporting militant act

A factory operator who was earlier charged with attempting to murder eight people and hurling a hand grenade at the Movida restaurant and bar, faces another charge of providing support involving the use of explosives with intent to threaten the public.

Jonius Ondie @ Jahali (pic) was produced before magistrate Mariam Maran Abdullah @ Lusia Muda Maran to have the charge read to him yesterday.

Jonius was accused of knowingly giving support to the militant act involving the use of the explosives and it was done with intent to threaten the public in Malaysia via his Telegram applicatio­n.

The 24-year-old Sabahan allegedly committed the offence at No 33, Jalan Sg Condong 3, Bandar Armada Putra, Pulau Indah here between March 25 and July 1, 2016.

He was charged under Section 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code.

No plea was recorded and no bail was offered.

Magistrate Mariam Maran later set Sept 7 for mention pending transfer the case to the High Court.

Syed Farid Syed Ali was the deputy public prosecutor while Jonius was unrepresen­ted.

On July 25, Jonius and unemployed Imam Wahyudin Karjono, 20, were charged in a magistrate’s court and Sessions Court in Petaling Jaya with attempting to murder eight people in the pub and also having in his possession a hand grenade. They were charged under section 130JB(1)(b) and 130J(1)(b) of the Penal Code each.

The incident which took place on June 28 at the Movida restaurant located in Puchong IOI Boulevard injured eight people.
