KLIA queue due to security upgrade
MALAYSIA Airports wishes to thank the airport user who provided feedback through the letter “Unexpected bustle at KLIA” (The Star, July 26).
With regards to the long queue and slow processing time during immigration inspection and clearance, Malaysia Airports has escalated the matter to the relevant authorities and is working very closely with the Immigration Department to resolve the said issues.
As announced by the Home Ministry, the immigration security screening system is being upgraded as part of efforts to heighten security at KLIA as well as for overall improvement of the country’s border management.
These key security measures include the integration of the Immigration Department’s MyImms system with Interpol’s database and the implementation of biometric fingerprint and facial scanning for all international passengers entering the country.
The implementation of these measures has lengthened the processing time per passenger and resulted in long queues.
The inter-agency task force led by the Transport Ministry is currently looking at ways to improve the process further.
Meanwhile, Malaysia Airports is also assisting to smoothen the passenger flow by making proactive announcements every 15 minutes at the terminal to remind passengers to clear immigration early.
We are also continually advising passengers to check in early as the airline counters are open for check-in four hours prior to the flight time.
