Khairul: Police report ‘successfully defended Najib’

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun is standing by his police report and insists that he has “evidence” to back up claims that there was an attempt to topple the Prime Minister.

He said he lodged the report to defend the leadership of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the Prime Minister, Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman.

“We acted based on our responsibility and we carried out our responsibility. I have a basis to lodge a police report.

“Most importantly, we have successfully defended Najib’s leadership,” he said during a press conference at Akademia Kepimpinan Kapten Hussein here yesterday.

Khairul Azwan said the report was not based on hearsay.

The report claimed that three prominent Malaysians were involved in a conspiracy to topple the Prime Minister.

“It is not a false police report. I understand that the InspectorGeneral of the Police (IGP) will not take any action,” he added.

IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had said that the police had stopped their investigation into the report as the complainant could not provide any proof.

When Khairul Azwan was asked on the evidence to back up his claims, he replied: “Please refer to my police report. It is based on my conviction and my belief that I lodged the report.”

Asked about his next course of action, he said: “The police have said that there will be no further action on the report or on me so I believe this is a Mexican standoff.”

Khairul Azwan added that the move to lodge the report was successful in stopping the attempt to bring down Najib.

A “Mexican standoff ” or a deadlock is slang to describe a confrontation between two or more parties in which none of the opponents has the advantage to proceed without being exposed to danger.

As a result, the situation remains unresolved. This expression is sometimes perceived as insulting to or by Mexicans.
