A night’s drinking session among five security guards turned into a nightmare when a group of parang-wielding men rushed in and repeatedly slashed them in a restaurant in Pasir Puteh here.

One died from the attack. His body was found in the compound of a house along Laluan Temenggong, about 500m away from the restaurant, while another was injured.

The armed men arrived at the restaurant in three vehicles around 10.30pm on Tuesday.

“The five security guards tried to flee when they saw the group of armed men. One of them had his hand slashed while trying to run away,” said Ipoh OCPD Assistant Commissioner Sum Chang Keong.

While four escaped and lodged a report later in the night, police received a call at 7.38am the next day informing that a body had been found, he said at a press conference here yesterday.

ACP Sum said police confirmed that the body was that of the fifth security guard, identified only as Raymond, 35, from Buntong.

The deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with a huge gash in his head, at the compound of a double-storey terrace house near a primary school.

“The house is occupied by three elderly women, and it was not the victim’s house.

“We also found his handphone and MyKad in his wallet. There was blood on the gate and at the side of the wall,” ACP Sum said.

A spokesman from the Pekan Baru Bomba Community said he was alerted of the body by parents sending their children to school.

“The three women told me that they had heard a noise, which sounded like a bicycle falling on the ground, around midnight – at the time of the crime.

“But they were too afraid to check it out. They discovered the body the next day when police came to investigate,” he said.

The case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Anyone with information is advised to inform the police.
