Perak Pakatan reps pull out of sub-exco committees
IPOH: All 17 Pakatan Harapan assemblymen have decided to pull out from all eight state sub-exco committees with immediate effect.
Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming claimed that the sub-exco committees had no political will to implement the reforms or proposals suggested by Pakatan Harapan.
“The committees can’t make any decision and are powerless. We tried to give constructive suggestions but nothing has happened,” he claimed in a statement.
Now that Pakatan Harapan has decided to pull out, Nga said the group would unanimously ask the state government to set up select committees through the state legislative assembly.
In an immediate response Perak MCA chief Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the survival of the opposition in Perak depended on finding fault and blaming the ruling party.
Contradicting Nga’s claim, Dr Mah, who is also a state executive councillor, said so many issues had either been resolved or were on the positive pathway.
“In fact, I am heading five of the sub-committees, and have good working relationship with some of the members from the Opposition.
“They have given us good feedback and views on related issues, and I am sure some of them may not be happy to be out as well.
“But under the iron-fist rule of the state DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming, who will dare speak up?” he asked at a press conference here yesterday.
Dr Mah said there were 11 state sub-exco committees made up of a chairman and an even number of members from the ruling government and the Opposition.
The committees include those dealing with public transport, the empowerment of women, pig breeding, sand theft, crime, radioactive pollution in Bukit Merah, solid waste management and issues concerning flies in Manjung.
“Nga was the first assemblyman to sit in one of the committees, but he never attended any of the meetings, so he had to be replaced.
“The committees have made significant achievements in spite of the limitations,” he added.
“We will continue to do our best to serve the people, and will have to do so even without input from the Opposition,” he added.
