Athletes reach for the galaxy

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian athletes in Rio had a pleasant surprise waiting for them. They all received a limited edition Samsung Galaxy S7 edge on Wednesday.

National diver Pandelela Rinong took to social media to express her excitement and gratitude after receiving her new phone.

“A wonderful surprise from #Samsung for every athlete participating in the #Rio2016 Olympic Games.

“A limited edition of# Samsung Galaxy S 7 Edge specially designed for us because being an Olympian is very much special,” posted Pandelela on her Facebook page along with a photo of her holding her new device.

Her post received more than 3,700 likes and 121 shares with an overwhelming majority wishing her and the Malaysian Olympic team good luck in the upcoming Games.

Last month, Samsung, an official sponsor of the Games, announced that all athletes taking part in Brazil would receive the limited edition of the phone.

According to Samsung, the Olympic edition is designed for Olympians and brings the spirit of the Games to every element of the phone’s interface.

It also confirmed that only a limited number of the Olympic themed edition will be available worldwide and would be on sale only in selected countries including Brazil, the United States, China, Germany and South Korea from July 18.

Samsung had previously released a special Olympic Games edition of its Galaxy S III during the London Games in 2012.
