Masked men ransack trader’s home

GEORGE TOWN: Four masked men said to be Indonesian­s broke into a businessma­n’s house and fled with cash and valuables amounting to RM123,000 in Lintang Gangsa here.

The robbers threatened the family of four with kitchen knives before tying them up with handphone cables at about 3.15am yesterday.

It is learnt that the businessma­n, his wife, his son and daughter-in-law were sleeping when they were rudely awakened by the robbers who gained entry via the side door.

They ransacked the premises before escaping with RM72,000, jewellery, watches and handphones. The victims sustained minor cuts and bruises to their wrists when they were tied.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalath­rash Wahid said they were now investigat­ing the case under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and Section 397 for armed robbery.

He said investigat­ions revealed that the robbers could be foreigners.
