Labourer jailed for punching Filipina wife

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A construction worker was jailed five months for punching his Filipina wife and threatening to kill her for messaging his girlfriend.

Sabahan Nasser Adli, 46, was sentenced to five months’ jail for each charge after he pleaded guilty at a magistrate’s court here yesterday.

Magistrate Mahyudin Mohamad Som, however, ordered the jail terms to run concurrently from the date of arrest on June 6.

Nasser was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt to his wife Susana Cabrera Gato, 48, at a flat in Taman Indah Murni Segambut Tengah, Sentul, at 9.30pm on June 5. He was charged under Section 506 of the same Act for threatening her life at the same place and time.

In mitigation, lawyer Cyrus Tiu Foo Woei pleaded for leniency, saying that his client was suffering from a heart problem and leg injuries.

Tiu said Nasser only earns RM35 daily as a construction worker and needed to support his parents and five children.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farah Adila Noordin pressed for a deterrent sentence to ensure the accused was truly remorseful and would not repeat the same acts in the future.

According to the facts of the case, Nasser became angry after he found out that his wife was messaging his girlfriend.

The couple started arguing and he then hit and threatened her.
