Hawkers help nab con artists

TWO foreign women who are said to be responsibl­e for cheating women of their money in Taiping, Perak, were caught thanks to alert hawkers, Oriental Daily reported.

In an incident on Wednesday morning, the suspects from China approached a woman in her 60s asking whether she knew where to get Chinese herbs at the Taiping market.

As several women had been conned by these suspects recently, the hawkers immediatel­y recognised them, it reported.

They called the police and then followed the victim.

When the hawkers confronted the suspects, they tried to run but were stopped with the help of several people. Police detained them for further investigat­ion.

They believe the two women cheated at least three women in the last two weeks with one of the victims losing more than RM10,000.

The motorcycle owner alerted the police after he found it missing on July 27.

Police carrying out a search found the suspect lying next to the motorcycle.

Initial investigat­ion showed that the suspect had gone for a drink before stealing the motorbike, but fell asleep afterwards.

The suspect only woke up after the police had carried him to the police car.

> China Press reported that a businessma­n, believed to be from Weihai, China, tied his dog behind his car and dragged it, causing severe injuries to the dog, and eventually death.

A video clip circulatin­g on social media shows the injured dog trying to keep up with the moving car.

Bystanders who saw the incident stopped the car but were too late to save the dog.

Police detained the businessma­n for further investigat­ion.
