Fed up with ‘monkeys’ on the road

- MALAYSIA BOLEH Petaling Jaya

I’VE been reading with interest the numerous letters concerning the antics of Malaysian motorists.

While I empathise with those drivers who follow the rules and regulations, I am afraid their concerns are in vain because the authorities seem to be turning a blind eye to all these problems. So you can bet the problems will become worse over time.

When disaster strikes, piecemeal action will be taken with great fanfare but these will also eventually be forgotten.

This inaction has created a generation of motorists who are inconsiderate, reckless and with a total disregard for the rules and regulations.

Some wonderful antics of Malaysian motorists include hogging the lanes (especially the middle one in a three-lane highway), beating traffic lights, cutting queue, driving on the emergency lane, not stopping at a stop sign, tailgating, using phones while driving, not signalling when cutting into a lane, sporting fancy number plates and using improperly fitted HID lights.

It has reached the stage where the majority takes pride in committing all these offences and one could go insane if one were to become agitated by this total lack of respect for the law.

A parting shot for all these “heroes” on the road: The way you drive and behave is a reflection of your character. But I am afraid most motorists make a monkey of themselves.
