Proud moment for graduates

-

UNIVERSITY graduates should not be complacent with the certification that they have obtained because qualifications do not guarantee success in real life, said Multimedia University (MMU) chancellor Tun Zaki Azmi.

“Instead of relying solely on their academic qualifications, graduates need to go further and use wisdom to create and innovate,” he said at the 17th MMU convocation ceremony.

He then conferred MMU’s Honorary Doctor of Knowledge Science on Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Halim Shafie.

He received the award for his role as an establisher of systems and initiatives that enabled computerisation and connectivity, and nurtured the love for knowledge among the young and old alike, throughout his career. He was also responsible for various policies that helped Malaysia step into the new knowledge-based economy.

Zaki also presented MMU’s President Award to Lim Zhen You, who graduated with a first class honours degree in engineering majoring in Robotics and Automation and a CGPA of 3.92.

Lim who is from Ipoh, has done well academically throughout his school years, getting straight As for his UPSR, PMR and SPM exams.

His score of 10As in the SPM enabled him to enter MMU using the Merit Scholarship for his Foundation in Engineering, for which he scored a CGPA of 3.95. His excellent results meant that he continued his four-year programme on the scholarship.

Throughout his degree course, he was on the Dean’s List in every trimester. The youngest of three children was also an active member of MMU’s Robocon team.

Lim attributed his success to the support he enjoyed from his parents as well as the university.

A total of 4,477 graduated from MMU and Multimedia College (MMC), the university’s subsidiary.

Of these, 3,726 graduands were from MMU with 778 receiving their diploma, 2,784 their bachelor degrees, 132 their Master’s degrees and 32 their PhD. The remaining 751 were from MMC.

The graduands were from the fields of Engineering, Information Technology, Creative Multimedia, Life Sciences, Management, Accounting, Law and Cinematic Arts.

This convocation is meaningful for the university as 2016 marks MMU’s 20th anniversary as well as the graduation of its first batch of students from its Faculty of Cinematic Arts, which is delivered exclusively at MMU’s campus in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

A tinge of sadness marked the ceremony as one of the graduates, Norfarahin Mohd Fisol, who was supposed to receive a Bachelor of Business Administration degree majoring in Management with Multimedia, had died in a recent car accident.

?? ?? Lim who received the President’s Award, has consistently done well throughout his time at school and university.
