THANKS to Brickfields Asia College (BAC) and Edunation Malaysia, boys and girls across the country can take part in the Million Dollar Feet (MDF) football competition.

“MDF is an electrifying programme that essentially provides young Malaysian kids with a platform to potentially play for one of Europe’s big football clubs,” says MDF director of football Peter de Kretser.

He says the MDF team will make their way around Malaysia to conduct drills and tryouts under the watchful eyes of their head coach and Liverpool legend Steve McMahon.

He adds that the two selected winners will receive an all expenses paid 10-day trip to the United Kingdom with the MDF team.

“There, they will participate in a trial match in front of invited scouts from top European football clubs.

“The dream is to have one of our Malaysian kids sign a contract (with the club) and hopefully provide a gateway for more young Malaysians to crack the big time on the big stage,” he says.

Brickfields Asia College managing director Raja Singham Sukumara Singham says the institution decided to become a sponsor for this competition as “we need to start them young because they need to get the right discipline, right training and attitude to build on their skills.”

The competition is open to boys and girls aged between 11 and 14-years-old from national, international, private and vernacular schools.

Raja Singham says that BAC will fully sponsor the 10,000 participants so that they can take part in the competition.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk P Kamalanathan, who was also present says: “To all Malaysians that includes me, it is a dream to see one of our very own local footballers make it to represent an elite club in Europe.”

He commended BAC for initiating the competition that would create a new platform for Malaysia’s budding talents to make it big in the world of football.

“I believe that this initiative has the potential to put Malaysia on the world map for football,” adds the avid Arsenal fan.

The first round of tryouts will be conducted in Penang on Sept 24 and 25, followed by Pahang (Oct 1 and 2), Sarawak (Oct 8 and 9), Johor (Oct 14 and 15) and Kuala Lumpur (Oct 21 and 22).
