THE alumni from SMJK Chong Hwa, Kuala Lumpur have come together to raise funds for the school’s facilities.

Herbaline Wellness Group founder C.K. Low has started the ‘Dine 4 Chong Hwa’ fund raising programme that involves what Malaysians love to do — eating!

He has partnered with the school to produce 3,000 booklets, each containing 10 RM10 vouchers which can be redeemed at 10 restaurants which are taking part in the fund raising.

The booklets will be sold to parents and students as well as the public.

The proceeds from the sale of booklets will then be used by the school to improve its facilities for the students.

The restaurants taking part are Mama Kim Sauna Mee Restaurant; Haru Tei Japanese Restaurant; Hoho Steamboat Restaurant; Loong’s Kitchen; CH Sdn Bhd Restaurant; Chong Fatt Restaurant; Chuan Kee Restaurant; Eleven Brothers Restaurant; Leng Kee Teochew Seafood Reataurant and Setapak Teochew Restaurant (Restoran Setapak Teochew).

At the campaign launch last Friday, Low who was represented by Herbaline Wellness Group deputy general manager Gary Sho said the activity is beneficial to the school, parents and restaurant owners.

“It is a win-win situation for all parties as the school would receive the funds needed while parents who buy the vouchers can take their children out for meals and restaurant owners would get a boost in their business traffic.

He said that the restaurant owners, most of whom are Chong Hwa primary and secondary school alumni as well, are supportive of the initiative.

Sho said the ‘Dine 4 Chong Hwa’ will be held in two waves.

The first wave is aimed at parents and students while the second wave will involve the public. Interested parties will be able to obtain the booklets from the school.

SMJK Chong Hwa board of governors deputy chairman and Ekovest Berhad managing director Datuk Seri Lim Keng Cheng said the school has come a long way since it first started in 1919.

“Rather than just asking for donations, the school has thought of an innovative way to raise funds,” he said.

Also present were SMJK Chong Hwa parent-teacher association chairman Chee Kok Ken, headmaster Goh Chee Chiang and Tan Boon Teng from the school’s board of governors.
